Our School
This year we are excited to offer you a Catholic education according to the new “micro school” model!
The micro school model can be tailored to the individual student and draws from the strengths of other models of education, such as homeschooling co-ops and the old “one room school houses” of history. Traditional grading methods remain in place to facilitate transition into high school. Over the past few years, Little Flower School has already been adopting this model in some ways., based on the successes of our previous multilevel classroom experiences, we are moving forward along these lines.
History
In July 1926, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate began staffing a school in the newly formed parish of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Therese at the intersection of Zarzamora & Kentucky.
In May of 1946, the Carmelite Fathers of San Antonio at last were able to build a new parochial grammar and high school constructed of Indiana Limestone to match the style and material of the Little Flower Basilica.
Today, Little Flower School continues to serve students from the San Antonio area as a center of spirituality & education, radiating in the life of every student the depth, beauty, and splendor of the life of St. Therese.
The Holy Spirit Sisters have continued to administer Little Flower School since 1926. In 2002, lay administrators began to work in the school.
Mission
Our mission is to provide all children an excellent, holistic educational program rooted in the Catholic faith and in the spirituality of St. Therese: “doing the ordinary things extraordinarily well.”
We at Little Flower School assist the church in its mission of developing committed Catholic Christians. All children, regardless of race, color, or creed are accepted and welcomed. We collaborate with parents and guardians in their role as primary educators of their children. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning both in academics and in living their religious values. We guide our students to recognize the love of God in our midst and challenge them to extend this love to those in need, following the example of Jesus and St. Therese.
LFS is accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department and recognized by the Texas Education Agency while implementing curriculum which meets and exceeds TEA requirements.
